Bergen County Freshman Champions
The 2006 Bergen Catholic boys
soccer teams season was a successful one, culminating with
the Bergen County Freshman Tournament title. The team finished
with a perfect record of 21 wins and zero losses, outscoring
their opponents in the process, 125 to 10.
In the Bergen County Coaches
Association Freshman tournament, BC began with a 1st round
vicoty of 7-0 against River Dell. In the second round, played
a spirited group from Bergen Tech with BC coming out on top,
5-1. The semifinal saw another 5-1 victory against Northern
Highlands Regional High School.
In the final, the #1 seed Bergen
Catholic Crusaders played the #7 seeded Cliffside Park at
Ramapo HS Field on Saturday, November 4th at 10AM.
Cliffside
Park came out with passion and fire, scoring a goal in the
first minute of play however BC did not fold, instead responded
like a team of destiny and scored two goals within the next
four minutes, goals by Tony Flaim and Marcelo Escudero.
The
second half began with some adjustments for BC, immediately
resulting with another goal from Marcelo Escudero within the
first minute of play, his 33rd of the season. A fourth goal
came from 40 yards out by Brian Pash as the keeper was screened
and unable to make a play. The fifth unanswered goal from
BC assisted by Marcelo Escudero after beating two players
down the left flank and slotting a pass into the box, put
away by Andrew McGuire.
This is Bergen Catholic's second
freshman county in as many years, the 2005 teams was crowned
co-champions after playing to a scoreless draw against Ramapo.
